The votive candle is a very common candle style that can be found in homes and churches across the country. They were originally intended to be used in Christian (most notable Catholic) religious ceremonies and were often placed in front of alters within a church. Today, however, they are a common site in millions of homes and are arguably the most popular style of candle in the world.
A votive candle can be made from any style of wax. For religious purposes, most of these candles are traditionally made from white or yellow beeswax. However, paraffin is also a very commonly used material.
A votive candle is most often place in a small candleholder. These holders are available in a virtually endless variety of designs and styles and can be found in stores around the world. Glass is probably the most commonly used material when it comes to these holders, but stone and metal are common as well.
